Dear All,

As you have probably noticed, since the beginning of the year the Virtual
Resource Center has been active in collecting, archiving and making
available materials that aim to be of direct use to you.

I would like to take a few moments to share with you just a few of the
things that are "New at Lookstein". Please feel free to make suggestions
as what types of materials you would like to see us offer on-line.

Shalom

New additions:

1. A Bible Lesson Plan on Avraham and Lot for Second and Third Grade
Available in 2 formats:
www.lookstein.org/lessonplans/lihitraot_lot.htm
www.lookstein.org/lessonplans/lihitraot_lot.pdf

2. There is also now a new WebQuest for high school entitled: A Woman's
Place: A WebQuest about Jewish Women in Jewish History.

In the WebQuest students write biographical pieces on one of thirteen
Jewish women, known for their active roles in the history of the Jewish
people--whether in the field of education, politics or philanthropy. The
WebQuest can be found at
http://www.lookstein.org/webquests/jewishwomeninjewishhistory.htm

On-line conferences

We are in the middle of a two part Interactive Internet Conference for Day
School Administrators on "Block Scheduling" presented by Dr. Robert Vogel,
Associate Professor of Education, La Salle University. Dr. Vogel has
currently completed a four-year project funded by the Jim Joseph
Foundation on Flexible Scheduling and Staff Development that involved
eight Jewish Day Schools from around the country. He continues to work
with new schools helping to implement flexible scheduling and staff
development programs.

We look forward to archiving the conference and making it available on the
website, as we have done with previous on-line conferences that we have
held.

As an example, see the mini-site that was developed following our
conference on responses to terrorism, which is entitled "Islands of
Resiliency" and is available on the Lookstein Center Website at
http://www.lookstein.org/islands.htm

Educational Resources -

Including "Resource of the week", lesson plans and webquests

All of these can be found on the Educational resources page
http://www.lookstein.org/edu_resources.htm

Since March we have chosen relevant webresources and have featured them on
the website http://www.lookstein.org/resource_week.htm under the title
"Resource of the week".

Throughout the year we have been creating and uploading lesson plans for
elementary (http://www.lookstein.org/lessonplan1_6.htm) and high school
classes (http://www.lookstein.org/lessonplan7_12.htm).

Among the materials are also a number of relevant webquests, including one
for middle school students that focuses on the situation in Israel from a
historical perceptive. It was created in order to assist students in
analyzing the history, cultures, and people of the Middle East

Educators forum

One of the most exciting parts of the Virtual Resource Center is the
database that allows educators to share their ideas and materials with one
another. Some of the materials that have been contributed to the database
include:

An article by Rabbi Nathaniel Helfgot entitled "And Moses Struck the
Rock": Numbers 20 and the Leadership of Moses"
http://www.lookstein.org/links/moses.htm.

Rabbi Stuart Light's Mishkan Project that was developed for his 5th
grade class www.lookstein.org/resources/mishkanproject.pdf

Rabbi Chaim Kosovsky's Parashat Hashavua Worksheets
http://www.lookstein.org/tanakh/parasha4thgrade.pdf

One of the most popular additions was an impressive project developed by
Seth Kadish, entitled "Guide Sheets for Reading Nevi'im and Ketuvim: A
System for Study and Review" that can be found at
http://www.lookstein.org/tanakh/guide.pdf.
This particular resource is accessed about 300 times a month!

Professor Moshe Sokolow of the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education
has made available several of his "Texts and Topics" materials including:

"Fate, Destiny and "Shivat Tziyon: The Rav on Religious Zionism" that is
based on Rav Yosef Dov Soloveichik's Kol Dodi Dofek -
http://www.lookstein.org/resources/ravandreligiouszionism.htm

and "When Must Soldiers Disobey Direct Orders? A Biblical, Talmudic,
Midrashic Analysis of An All Too Contemporary Question" which appears at
http://www.lookstein.org/resources/whenmustsoldiers.htm
